Curly Burl Redwood Slab Headboard Part 3

The headboard is now flipped back so that the top can be worked on. the edges are shaped with a grinder, smoothed with a power sander and then more polishing and sanding is done by hand.

Tim devised a way to router down the top of the headboard, this was a lot faster than using a planer and trying to sand the saw marks out by hand.

All that is left is some ridges from routering, these were removed with a hand sander

This is after the top has been 100% sanded down to 400 grit

One of the first things that needed to be done with the headboard was to stabilize the cracks on the back side. Tim calls this (stitching), when doing this, it will help prevent the cracks from getting larger.

The bar was glued into place to prevent this end from warping and cracking.

All glued and drying, then it will be flipped over to begin work on the front.

There's our guard dog BO, hahaha, he is more like an over grown pup
